About Cruise
Cruise was founded in 2013 with the vision of making transportation cleaner, safer, and more inclusive by dramatically reducing roadway fatalities, decarbonizing the transportation sector, and ensuring that transportation is more equitable and accessible.
Headquartered in San Francisco, we have been joined by several partners that share this vision, including General Motors, Honda, Microsoft, Walmart, Softbank, and T-Rowe Price. Cruise has accumulated over 2 million fully autonomous miles through our fleet of over 300 fully-electric AVs in both California and Arizona, where we are conducting both drivered and driverless testing as well as delivery service.
Cruise currently tests our technology using General Motors' fully-electric Chevrolet Bolt. Cruise also announced the development of the Origin in January 2020 - developed with GM and Honda, the Cruise Origin is a purpose-built, fully-electric, shared, autonomous vehicle platform that will form the backbone of our future service.
We took our commitment one step further by launching Farm to Fleet, a new initiative to power our vehicles in California with fully-renewable solar power sourced from family farms in the Central Valley - a first of its kind partnership for the AV industry. Every mile that Cruise now drives is not just electric - it is truly zero emission.
And while we are pre-commercial, we are partnering with our communities today. In April 2020, we launched Cruise for Good, a meals and grocery delivery program for food-insecure households in San Francisco. Working with SF New Deal and the SF Marin Food Bank, Cruise has delivered over 1.5 million meals, with 81% of deliveries going to residents in zip codes below the city's median household income.
Looking forward, Cruise is committed to offering the public an alternative to today's transportation landscape - one that is safer, cleaner, more accessible, and more equitable for all.

About Our Research
Frontline communities across the United States - many in low-income and disadvantaged areas, and predominantly communities of color - not only disproportionately bear the burden of poor air quality from transportation pollution, but often spend a higher share of monthly income on transportation costs while having less access to public transit. California, Cruise's home state, is no exception.
Transportation from largely single-occupant passenger vehicles is the state’s biggest source of emissions, and African American and Latinx communities in the state are exposed to PM2.5 pollution at concentrations ~40% higher than white communities.
In this complex landscape, the three revolutions - electric, autonomous, and shared vehicles - are converging to drastically change transportation. While this technology has many potential benefits, it is still unclear how autonomous vehicles will impact those frontline communities who have historically been impacted most by systemic racism, environmental injustice, and other social and environmental inequities.
To explore these topics, EVNoire and Cruise jointly partnered to engage San Francisco residents in Districts 5 and 10 - two frontline communities within the city - to 1) engage local residents on their knowledge of and attitudes towards innovative transportation, 2) hear whether and how shared, autonomous, and electric vehicles fit into community needs to address and mitigate disparities in transportation access and public health, and 3) understand how developers of AV technology can best integrate service to support community goals around cleaner, more inclusive transportation.
EVNoire and Cruise will be presenting the research findings from this initial exploratory study at TRB's Conference on Advancing Transportation Equity. With San Francisco as one of the first major metros to experience autonomous vehicles at scale, these findings will help inform how operators can engage and partner with communities in other U.S. cities in a way that serves community goals.
The research includes surveys, focus groups with residents, and interviews with local leaders and community-based organizations.
