About the Presenter
Celeste Chavis
Morgan State University
Dr. Celeste Chavis is an associate professor in the Department of Transportation and Urban Infrastructure Studies at Morgan State University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (2012) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland. Since joining Morgan in 2013, Dr. Chavis has been PI or co-PI in research awards totaling $3.9M. Her research focuses on transportation operations, safety, and performance metrics for multimodal transportation systems through an equity lens. Recent work includes topics on bicycle and pedestrian safety, transit performance measures, travel behavior modeling, and transportation equity. She has worked with several agencies including Baltimore City Department of Transportation, City of Jacksonville, District Department of Transportation, IBM Africa and the Tanzanian government. Additionally, she is a senior transportation advisor to the TBCG Development Group. Dr. Chavis is a board member of the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance and is a member of TRB Standing Committee on Emerging and Innovative Public Transportation Services and Technologies (AP020). She is a registered professional engineer in the State of Maryland.
